Happy Valentine’s Day! Love = Books Contest

Hi everyone! I know it’s been a while, but I’ve been working hard AND enjoying a bit of down time, but I’m back today with a ONE DAY ONLY contest. It’s easy, though, so you don’t need to study or do much other than tell me about what you love.

UPDATE: This contest is now CLOSED. The three winners are Coreynascenzi, Marlene Moss and Heidi Grange – watch your inbox for a message from me. CONGRATULATIONS to you and everyone who received a book for International Book Giving Day!

Did you know that today is International Book Giving Day? It’s true!

Book Giving Day

And it’s Valentine’s Day. AND I’m going to see Lemony Snicket tonight! A VERY BIG DAY for me and full of love. So to celebrate, I’m going to give away THREE prizes today. All you need to do is leave a comment here, or Tweet @ me (@joannelevy) telling me your favorite Valentine’s treat. It could be anything, from a book to chocolates or hugs – whatever you love to receive. I will choose three winners at random to get:

1. A Lemony Snicket book of your choice AND

That’s two books you could win, just for telling me about what you like to receive for Valentine’s. Not bad, huh? The only catch is, I need you to respond by 11:59 Eastern tonight – February 14, 2013. Winners will be announced tomorrow. This contest is open internationally (Canada/US/or wherever Book Depository ships).

Also, get extra entries for sharing (just let me know what you’ve done in your comment, so I can keep track).

Got it? GO!

(Also, in the spirit of International Book Giving Day – please pay it forward and give someone a book.)

  1. Since no one ever gives me books for Valentine’s Day-they claim I get enough, what I love receiving most are teddy bears. I cannot help it, I just love teddy bears and my mom, dad, and sisters all know it. Chocolate is cool too, but entirely too hard to find when you need allergy friendly chocolate.

If I had known that today was international book giving day, I would have waited to give my mom the book my sisters and I bought her. *oh, well*

Hope you have a very happy St. Valentine’s Day/International Book Giving Day, Joanne. =)

    • Hi Orchid! Happy Valentine’s day to you! I love teddy bears, too. And sock monkeys, of course. I hope you get a happy, squish-worthy teddy bear today. 😀

Flowers. I don’t get them very often, and they make the house smell so good!

    February 14, 2013 at 9:38 am

    • Hi Tia, flowers are so nice, aren’t they? And they’re calorie free!

  3. Tracy Lawson

My husband accepted a job in another state, and I stayed behind with our daughter until she finishes high school. Today, he’s seeing a house that’s for sale in our new city. The start of a new beginning for us is what I want for Valentine’s Day!

    February 14, 2013 at 9:58 am

    • That sounds like a wonderful Valentine’s gift – I’m wishing it all falls into place for you, Tracy!

      February 14, 2013 at 10:06 am

  4. My favorite Valentine treat is a hand drawn card from my sons. (I usually have to remind them now that they are 3rd and 5th grade, but I still love them).

    February 14, 2013 at 10:08 am

    • Hi Maria, even with the necessary nudge, I bet those are the cutest things ever. Enjoy!

      February 14, 2013 at 10:10 am

  5. I LOVE getting my Valentine’s hugs from kids at school. Some children can’t offer physical things. Great news for them that hugs are A-OK with me! They’re special!

    February 14, 2013 at 10:17 am

    • Hi Lisa – hugs are a wonderful gift any time of year but I hope you get extra today!

      February 14, 2013 at 10:19 am

  6. I celebrated International Book Giving Day and Valentines by sending my niece a book… my niece’s love of books is all the gift I need this Valentines!

    February 14, 2013 at 10:31 am

    • What a great gift for both of you! Enjoy your day!

      February 14, 2013 at 10:40 am

  7. Marlene Moss

The gift I love the most (and any day of the year, not just V-day) is for my husband to take a day off work. We grab our horses and go wander through some amazing twisty trails overlooking cliffs and ravines. Time is the most valuable gift.

Thanks for doing this and I have fun plans to pay it forward!

    February 14, 2013 at 10:38 am

    • Marlene, that sounds like a great way to celebrate any day. You’re right that time is the most valuable gift – thanks for the reminder and for paying it forward.

      February 14, 2013 at 10:41 am

  8. The gift I love the most at any time of the year is a gift card from my favorite book store. I hunt and hunt for something I know the person giving me the card would love for me to read and I treasure them all.

    February 14, 2013 at 10:41 am

    • What an excellent way to honor the person who gave you the gift, Elvina. I hope you get a gift card today!

      February 14, 2013 at 10:46 am

  9. I have a special love of chocolate! 😉 But I especially love getting a new book to read!

    February 14, 2013 at 11:15 am

    • Heidi, those are two of my favorite things – especially when enjoyed together. 😀

      February 14, 2013 at 11:17 am

  10. YAY! Thank you for perfect giveaway. ❤ You are amazing. Fingers crossed 🙂
I would want books. Lots and lots of books (A) ❤ Or a giftcard, so that I can buy them myself 🙂 But yeah, I love buying from Book Depository ;p We don't really make a big deal of Valentine's Day here is Norway. Well, maybe some do, but I don't 🙂 I think it's pretty and all, but since I don't have a boyfriend it doesn't mean that much to me. Maybe at a later time 🙂
    Love, Carina Olsen

My favorite Valentine gift IS chocolate. How did you know? Have a great time at Lemony Snicket!

I tweeted a link to your giveaway: https://twitter.com/carlrscott/status/302102821820563457

    • Ha! I know so few people who don’t love chocolate – it’s always a good bet. The hard part is figuring out which kind! Thanks for the link sharing love!

      February 14, 2013 at 12:18 pm

  12. Well, getting books and chocolate is always awesome! I’ve always imagined my soulmate will woo me with Chocolate Frogs and bookshelves full of books 😉

The coolest Valentine’s gift I’ve ever gotten was actually my Harry Potter tattoo, which my parents gave (as in paid for not actually did the tattoo, cause ouch, lol) me for V-Day one year…it’s a permanent reminder of their love (or my love of Harry Potter. Either way it’s a tat of love!).

    February 14, 2013 at 12:57 pm

    • That’s a very sweet gift from your parents! Mine would never support a tattoo, but they’re very old school. I’m with you on the books and chocolate, too. 😀

I would love to win the very first book in the Series of Unfortunate Events, The Bad Beginning. I was Violet Baudelaire in my school play’s adaptation of the movie and I love the series but unfortunately I don’t own a single copy. And of course, I would love to read your book. 😉 I retweeted your tweet and my username is @3catsandabook. Happy Valentine’s!

    February 14, 2013 at 2:12 pm

    • Hi Enya – I love that you were Violet in the play! How fun! Thanks for the tweet love. 😀

    My favorite valentine’s treat?
    Dark chocolate brownies with beets!

    February 14, 2013 at 2:22 pm

    • Ohhhh, I bet the beets make them rich and sweet. YUM.

      February 14, 2013 at 2:25 pm

  15. I LOVE all the chocolate that comes out for Valentine’s day – I love it even more the week after Valentines Day when it’s all on super sale 🙂

    February 14, 2013 at 3:46 pm

  16. I have a sweet tooth, so I usually want lots of chocolates or cakes, but I’ve been on a serious diet for several months now. So instead of loads of chocolates, my husband surprised me with a small, purple & white striped sock monkey with an adorable heart sewn to his chest ❤ and he had a little sack of sweets tied to his arm (the monkey, not my husband) 😀
When I looked in my purse for headache tablets at work today, I found the little guy hiding in there with his candy offerings (again, the monkey and not my awesome husband).

    Hope you've had a LOVE-ly Day!!

    February 14, 2013 at 9:43 pm

    • Aw, Lynne – what a lovely Valentine’s surprise! Your husband’s a keeper for sure. 😀

      February 14, 2013 at 11:12 pm

      • Thanks, he IS a Keeper! (my mom said the same thing about him too) 🙂
